How and when to vote
Saturday, October 17, 2026
Advance voting
At least one advance voting day is held before October 17 in every jurisdiction. Dates vary by municipality, check your local government website for specifics.
Who can vote
Canadian citizens 18 or older who have lived in BC for at least six months and are a resident of the jurisdiction on election day. Property owners who live elsewhere in BC may also be eligible as non-resident property electors, contact your local elections office to confirm.
What to bring
Two pieces of ID showing your name and residential address, with at least one showing your signature (like a BC driver's licence or BC Services Card). A combined BC driver's licence and BC Services Card counts as one piece of ID, not two. If your ID doesn't show your address, you can make a solemn declaration at the voting place.
Register or confirm
You can register on the Provincial Voters List through Elections BC in advance, or at your voting place on election day in most jurisdictions. Contact your municipal elections office for the specifics in your area.
About Vital Vote
Community foundations across the country are proud to encourage civic engagement in an unbiased, non-partisan way.
Vital Vote is a program of Community Foundation North Okanagan, part of our ongoing Vital Signs work examining the issues affecting our region. Every candidate, whether mayoral, council, RDNO electoral area, or school trustee, receives the same questions across five critical issue areas: environmental, social, cultural, economic, and health.
Questions were developed by a volunteer working group in consultation with local champions in each sector. This site is powered by CFNO and made possible by the volunteers, funders, and community leaders who share our belief in an informed and engaged electorate.
