Continue improving government exam results. Continue improving math and literacy scores at elementary school level. Provide school/communication information forums regarding SOGI to provide information and understanding.
What do you see as the top three challenges currently facing the school district?
Safe school access. Learn from Tumbler Ridge incident. Budget constraints. More financial and staff to help diverse students learning.
What are your top priorities for improving student achievement?
Each school should look at their academic plans and how they will improve academic weaknesses. Where schools are chronically weak, develop a fund which schools can apply for assistance.
What are your priorities for school facilities (e.g., aging infrastructure, overcrowding, environmental upgrades)?
1. Address overcrowded schools. Students don’t do well in overcrowded classrooms 2. Address aging infrastructure in combination with environmental upgrades. Eg. Replace furnaces with thermal heating. Install solar panels in schools roofs to provide school based electricity. Sell excess electricity during the summer back to the grid.
How would you like to see climate action prioritized at the governance level so that it guides decisions around infrastructure, operations, and student learning?
1. More electric buses. Cheaper to operate. Less pollution. See Q4.
How will you monitor and improve progress toward safe, caring, and inclusive schools?
Superintendent, senior staff to monitor and provide information to Board during in-camera meeting regarding above. If there are schools with chronic issues. Superintendent and school to refine that school’s safety, inclusive practices. Provide updates at in-camera.
What specific actions would you prioritize to support Indigenous student success and reconciliation?
Regular meetings with indigenous communities to discuss, develop indigenous learning. The school district does have data which can be used during these meetings which can be used to develop ways and ideas to improve learning.
How would you handle controversial issues and/or competing interests?
Gather information to gain understanding. Issues and interests should not take away from student learning.
How will you engage meaningfully with parents, caregivers, and the broader community?
PAC Minutes from Beairsto, Harwood, Hillview, Lavington, Coldstream, Kidston and Kal High will show my attendance on a regular basis. If I am elected, I would look forward to a PAC invitation. With the broader community, I would be pleased to devote an hour on Saturday mornings in the Village Green Food Court. We can have coffee and chat.
