What is a Community Foundation?
Community foundations are charitable organizations dedicated to improving communities in specific geographic areas. We do this by pooling the charitable gifts of donors to create endowment funds and using the investment income to make grants. Community foundations also provide leadership – monitoring our area’s quality of life and convening people, ideas, and resources to help build stronger and more resilient communities. A community foundation is truly a charity for all charities!

The Community Foundation of the North Okanagan is a proud member of Community Foundations of Canada, the national membership organization for more than 191 community foundations across Canada. High standards of accountability, transparency and stewardship are reflected in all aspects of our work.
The Community Foundation is governed by a volunteer board of community leaders who collectively represent the broad public interest and diversity of all communities in the region. The board is supported in its efforts by skilled staff who execute the mission for the Foundation. To be responsive and accountable to donors, grantees, and the communities we serve, we operate with policies and practices that reflect our values, vision and mission, and that inspire trust and stress flexibility and inclusiveness.
